World Water Solutions Agro Culture Sanctuary – Project Overview
The World Water Solutions (WWS) Agro Culture Sanctuary will be the largest naturally developed, regenerative three-acre ecosystem in the Hawaiian Islands—serving as an innovative model for sustainable agriculture, aquaponics, and cultural preservation. Spanning 871 feet in length and 151 feet in width, the sanctuary will be enclosed by durable 6-foot pig fencing anchored with 8-foot hot-dipped galvanized T-posts set in concrete. This secure perimeter supports habitat restoration and sustainable cultivation within a living system that integrates food, water, energy, and education.
At the heart of the sanctuary is its signature feature: a 300-foot-long, 6,100-square-foot aquaponic system—the largest of its kind in a natural setting in the Hawaiian Islands. This system is designed to cultivate native tilapia and Hawaiian prawns, creating a nutrient-rich cycle that feeds the surrounding food forest. It will be constructed using Firestone 45-mil non-toxic pond liner (one 30 x 100 ft roll and three 20 x 100 ft rolls) to minimize seams, with professional-grade bonding adhesives for durability. Multiple pump stations will circulate water back to the system’s origin point, allowing for gravity-fed flow throughout. These stations will also house solar modules, battery storage, and inverters to ensure continuous renewable operation.
Integrated into this system is a 12 x 16-foot greenhouse, framed with ¾-inch PVC hoops designed for efficient water shedding and covered with high-grade UV-resistant film. Inside, hydroponic systems will support the cultivation of lettuce, fruiting plants, and native trees from seed to transplant-ready root systems. This living water infrastructure will serve as both a food production system and an educational platform for students, farmers, and community members.
To ensure clean and renewable water access, the sanctuary will incorporate a biochar-based filtration system inspired by George Kearns’ research. This system will utilize four 55-gallon drums layered with rock, gravel, sand, mesh, and charcoal to naturally purify water for safe consumption. Complementing this is an Electroculture Farming Network that uses copper coils, wiring, magnets, and crystal stones to harness atmospheric energy (DC voltage) into the soil. This emerging method supports plant vitality, reduces pests, and minimizes dependence on fertilizers and irrigation—demonstrating a low-cost, nature-based agricultural approach.
A second signature feature, the Lava Rock Crack Garden Walkway, will extend nearly 100 feet beneath a covered metal canopy. This multi-tiered, custom-built garden will cultivate a diverse range of Hawaiian canoe plants, herbs, spices, fruits, and native flora, including turmeric, ginger, mushrooms, white pineapple, orchids, dwarf coconut, papaya, mango, and ice cream bean. Footbridges will connect key areas of the sanctuary, enhancing accessibility and blending seamlessly into the natural landscape. A predator-proof chicken coop with free-ranging hens will further contribute to a thriving regenerative food forest system.
Supporting infrastructure will include one to three adequately sized water catchment reservoirs, along with a 12 x 20-foot Agricultural Food Security Kitchen built on a permitted concrete foundation for harvesting and food processing. A dedicated pavilion will provide space for community education, school field trips, university partnerships, and cultural workshops.
Designated sleeping quarters will accommodate maintenance staff and visiting guests, including participants attending WWS’s annual conference. All systems across the sanctuary will operate primarily on 100% solar energy, supported by dedicated solar housing units and pump stations equipped with inverters, battery storage, and control systems, with city grid power available as a backup.
The sanctuary will also serve as the main headquarters for World Water Solutions, featuring a two-story, Hawaiian-style facility. This headquarters will include a full kitchen, separate men’s and women’s bathrooms, a board meeting room, and dedicated office spaces for the President, Global Executive Secretary, WWS Grant Writing Team, Global Marketing and Advertising Department, and Project Planning Office.
Adjacent to the headquarters, a WWS Scientific Research Laboratory will support one to two scientists conducting ongoing research and development in sustainable agriculture, water systems, and environmental innovation.
Welcoming guests, volunteers, and learners, a 32-foot covered entry walkway will lead into the sanctuary, crossing over a small reflective pond that symbolizes the union of nature, culture, and innovation.
